Backpack Inversion – Aerialogy Academy

Backpack Inversion

+3 +1

Tutorial

Tips

  • Slide the silks onto your shoulders like backpack straps
  • Lean back into the fabric and find a “comfortable” position on your lower back
  • Engage core and quads to lift the legs, while using arm strength to push back on the poles
  • Straddle wide so the silks go inside of your legs. Do not pike through the middle of the silks

Diamond Straddle variation

  • With bent knees, lean back and straddle wide so the silks are inside your legs, then extend your legs
  • Straighten legs, point feet and toes
  • Draw the legs down toward the ground
  • Release grip and reach for calves or the floor

Straight-Legged Straddle

  • With straight legs, pull up and lean back
  • Use your core & quad muscles. Do not allow the lower back to arch – if it wants to arch, move back to Diamond variation and condition by exiting with straight legs

To Exit

  • Reach up, grab the poles, pull up and tip forward
  • Come out slowly with leg and core muscles active
